Anganwadis in Kerala to Start LKG, UKG Classes
The Social Justice Department is mulling to open kindergarten (LKG, UKG) classes in Anganwadis in the state with an aim to familiarise the children with English language along with the mother tongue.
The Department has initiated procedures to open LKG, UKG classes in at least one Anganwadi in a district. In the first stage, kindergarten classes will be launched in 14 Anganwadis.
The decision was taken at a meeting of Integrated Child Development Service (ICDS) Mission Executive Committee held on July 19. In the 2013 Early Childhood Education Scheme, the Centre had instructed states to teach more than one language to children below six years of age.
